Abstract:
The Grand Al-Faw Port is one of Iraq’s most important strategic projects, aiming to strengthen the country's geopolitical role in the region. Located in southern Iraq on the Arabian Gulf, it is considered one of the largest ports in the world in terms of capacity and logistical importance. Al-Faw Port plays a pivotal role in transforming Iraq into a major hub for maritime transport in the Middle East, contributing to the enhancement of international trade and reducing dependence on neighboring countries' ports. The port can accommodate large vessels and open new shipping routes linking Iraq to global markets, thereby boosting the country’s import and export capabilities and increasing government revenues.
Geopolitically, Al-Faw Port enhances Iraq's regional standing by providing modern infrastructure for transport and logistics services. It offers Iraq the opportunity to play a greater role in global maritime trade and grants it increased economic and geopolitical influence in the Arabian Gulf region. It also contributes to strengthening trade relations with neighboring countries and achieving a balance of regional influence.
